The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Read, and your Lord only is the Most Beneficent, 3 He Who taught (the use of) the pen,- 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Despite this, the human being still tends to rebel 6 As he bethinkest himself selfsufficient. 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A votary when he (turns) to pray? 10 What thinkest thou? If he were upon guidance 11 Or had enjoined piety, (it would have been better)? 12 What do you think? Have you seen if he belies and turns away, 13 Is he then unaware that Allah seeth? 14 Nay, if he desist not, We shall most surely drag him down upon his forehead 15 a lying, sinful forelock. 16 Then, let him call (for help) to his council (of comrades): 17 We too would summon the braves of the army. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
