The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it plunges, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Nigh thereto is the Garden of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Do sons belong to you and daughters to God? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 They are but names, named by you and your fathers. Allah has not sent down any authority for them. They follow conjecture and their soul's desire, eventhough the guidance of their Lord has come to them. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
