Noah (Nooh)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Surely We sent Nuh to his people, saying: Warn your people before there come upon them a painful chastisement. 1 [Noah] said, "My people! I am but a plain warner to you, 2 saying, "Serve God, and fear Him, and obey you me, 3 He will forgive you your sins, and will defer you to an appointed term. Verily the term of Allah when it cometh shall not be deferred, if ye but knew. 4 He said, "My Lord, indeed I invited my people [to truth] night and day. 5 "But my call only increases (their) flight (from the Right). 6 "And verily! Every time I called unto them that You might forgive them, they thrust their fingers into their ears, covered themselves up with their garments, and persisted (in their refusal), and magnified themselves in pride. 7 Then I summoned them openly, 8 "Further I have spoken to them in public and secretly in private, 9 “I therefore told them, ‘Seek forgiveness from your Lord; He is indeed Most Forgiving.’ 10 'He will send rain to you in abundance; 11 And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers. 12 What ails you, that you look not for majesty in God, 13 ‘Whereas it is He Who created you in different stages?’ 14 "'Do you not see how God has created seven heavens in full harmony with one another, 15 and has set up within them the moon as a light [reflected] and set up the sun as a [radiant] lamp? 16 And Allah has made you grow out of the earth as a growth: 17 how He will then return you to it and bring you forth again, 18 And Allah hath made the earth a wide expanse for you 19 So that you may walk upon its spacious paths.' 20
