He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you attended to him, 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And hath fear, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 These verses are a reminder 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 then the way eased for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then He will raise him up again when He please. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let Man consider his nourishment. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 olives, dates, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grasses: 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
