The Human (Al-Insan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
There was certainly a time when there was no mention of the human being. 1 We created man from a drop of mingled fluid so that We might try him; We gave him hearing and sight; 2 We surely showed him the way that he may either be grateful or deny. 3 We have prepared for unbelievers chains and collars and a blazing fire. 4 Surely the righteous shall drink of a cup the admixture of which is camphor 5 This will be a gushing spring wherefrom Allah's servants shall drink wine, a spring from which they will take out channels wherever they wish. 6 These will be the ones who fulfil their vows and dread the Day whose woe shall be spread far and wide; 7 And feed the needy for the love of Him, and the orphans and the captives, 8 "We only feed you for the sake of God and we do not want any reward or thanks from you. 9 Verily we dread from our Lord a Day grim and distressful. 10 But Allah will deliver them from the evil of that Day, and will shed over them a Light of Beauty and (blissful) Joy. 11 and will reward them for all their patience in adversity with a garden [of bliss] and with [garments of] silk. 12 Reclining in the (Garden) on raised thrones, they will see there neither the sun's (excessive heat) nor (the moon's) excessive cold. 13 The shade thereof is close upon them and the clustered fruits thereof bow down. 14 And amongst them will be passed round vessels of silver and cups of crystal, 15 Clear glasses [made] from silver of which they have determined the measure. 16 Therein they shall be served a cup flavoured with ginger, 17 From a spring by the name of Ever-flowing-Salsabil. 18 ۞ Immortal youths shall go about them; when thou seest them, thou supposest them scattered pearls, 19 If you were to see it, you would find it to be a great kingdom with great bounty. 20 Upon them shall be garments of fine green silk and of brocades. And adorned they shall be with bracelets of silver: and their Lord shall give them drink a beverage pure. 21 [And they will be told:] "Verily, all this is your reward since Your endeavour [in life] has met [God's] goodly acceptance!" 22
