The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ What are they asking (one another)? 1 About the great news - 2 About which they differ? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 They will indeed come to know soon. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 and gave you repose in sleep, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 and made the day to seek livelihood, 11 and built above you seven strong firmaments, 12 and We appointed a blazing lamp 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 A day when the trumpet is blown and ye come in multitudes, 18 And the heaven is opened and becometh as gates, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Finding neither sleep nor any thing to drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 Indeed, they were not expecting an account 27 And they belied Our revelations with strong belying. 28 We have kept account of everything in a book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
