He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 when the blind came to him. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him you are distracted. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and pious. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And produce therein corn, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 all this as a provision for you and your cattle. 32 And when the Blast shall sound, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Each one of them, that Day, will have enough concern (of his own) to make him indifferent to the others. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 And faces on that Day! upon them shall be gloom. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 these, these will be the ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity! 42
