The nobles of Pharaoh said: "He surely is a clever magician. 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 to summon every skilful magician to your presence.' 112 And the magicians came to Firaun, and said, “Will we get some reward if we are victorious?” 113 He said: yea! and verily ye shall be of those brought nigh. 114 They said: O Musa! will you cast, or shall we be the first to cast? 115 He said, "You throw [first]!" When they made their cast, they bewitched the eyes of the people and struck them with awe, for they showed a great [feat of] magic. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 threw themselves down in prostration 120 And said: "We have come to believe in the Lord of all the worlds, 121 The Lord of Musa and Harun. 122 Said Pharaoh: "Have you come to believe in him ere I have given you permission? Behold, this is indeed a plot which you have cunningly devised in this [my] city in order to drive out its people hence! But in time you shall come to know, [my revenge]: 123 I will cut off on opposite sides a hand and a foot, and then crucify you all' 124 They answered: "Verily, unto our Sustainer do we turn 125 for thou takest vengeance on us only because we have come to believe in our Sustainer's messages as soon as they came to us. O our Sustainer! Shower us with patience in adversity, and make us die as men who have surrendered themselves unto Thee!" 126
