And rehearse to them (something of) Abraham's story. 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They replied, "We worship idols and shall continue to worship them". 71 He said, “Do they hear you when you call?” 72 Or do they benefit you, or do they harm?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 "You and your ancient fathers? 76 Indeed, they are enemies to me, except the Lord of the worlds, 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 and is the One who gives me to eat and to drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me, 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 and who I am eager shall forgive me my offence on the Day of Doom. 82 O Lord, give me wisdom and admit me among the righteous, 83 And grant me an honourable mention in later generations; 84 Make me inherit the bountiful Paradise. 85 "Forgive my father, for that he is among those astray; 86 and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected, 87 "The Day whereon neither wealth nor sons will avail, 88 “Except he who presented himself before Allah, with a sound* heart.” (Intact or unblemished.) 89 On the Day of Judgment Paradise will be brought near the pious 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 they will be asked, "Where are those whom you worshipped 92 apart from God? Do they help you or help themselves?' 93 Then they shall be hurled therein, they and the seduced ones. 94 and Satan's legions, all together. 95 And there and then, blaming one another, they [who had grievously sinned in life] will exclaim: 96 "By God, we were most obviously astray 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 It was naught but the sinners that led us astray; 99 We have no one to intercede for us before God 100 Nor any sincere friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 surely, your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 104
