Thamud denied the messengers 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 143 So fear God and follow me. 144 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 145 Shall ye be left secure in that which is here before us. 146 In gardens and watersprings. 147 and fields, and [these] palm-trees with slender spathes? 148 And hew ye out houses in the mountains skilfully! 149 So fear Allah and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 who do corruption in the earth, and set not things aright.' 152 They replied: 'Surely, you are one of those bewitched. 153 You are a mere mortal like us. Show us a miracle if you are telling the Truth". 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 "Touch her not with harm, lest the Penalty of a Great Day seize you." 156 But they hamstrung her and so became regretful. 157 And the punishment seized them. Indeed in that is a sign, but most of them were not to be believers. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
