And most surely this is a revelation from the Lord of the worlds. 192 The Trusted Spirit hath brought it down. 193 Upon your heart, for you to convey warning. 194 In plain Arabic language. 195 Truly it is in the Scriptures of the ancients. 196 Is it not a sign to them that the learned scholars (like 'Abdullah bin Salam who embraced Islam) of the Children of Israel knew it (as true)? 197 Had We revealed it to any of the non-Arabs, 198 and he had recited it to them, they would not have believed. 199 Even so We have caused it to enter into the hearts of the sinners, 200 who will not believe in it, until they see the painful chastisement 201 The torment will strike them suddenly without their knowledge. 202 Then they will say: "Shall we be respited?" 203 Do they, then, [really] wish that Our chastisement be hastened on? 204 But hast thou ever considered [this]: If We do allow them to enjoy [this life] for some years, 205 And then there came to them that which they were promised? 206 So of what benefit will be the comforts that they were using? 207 Never a city We destroyed, but it had warners 208 and reminded: for, never do We wrong [anyone]. 209 The devils did not bring it down: 210 they are not supposed to do so. Nor do have they the ability for such a task. 211 indeed they are debarred from overhearing it. 212 So do not call upon another god with Allah, lest you should be one of those who are punished. 213 And warn [whomever thou canst reach, beginning with] thy kinsfolk, 214 And take those believers under your wing who follow you. 215 And if they disobey you, then say, "Indeed, I am disassociated from what you are doing." 216 And rely upon the Exalted in Might, the Merciful, 217 Who watches you when you stand up. 218 And thy movements among those who fall prostrate. 219 for, verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing! 220 Shall I inform you (O people!) upon whom the Shayatin (devils) descend? 221 They descend on every lying (one who tells lies), sinful person. 222 Who give ear, and most of them are liars. 223 And as for the poets -- it is the misled who follow them. 224 Did you not see that they keep wandering in every valley? 225 and preaching what they themselves never practice. 226 Except those who believe, work righteousness, engage much in the remembrance of Allah, and defend themselves only after they are unjustly attacked. And soon will the unjust assailants know what vicissitudes their affairs will take! 227
