The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enveloped! 1 arise and warn, 2 Thy Lord magnify 3 And your garments purify! 4 and flee from the statues! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 And then bestowed upon him ample means, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 Then he said: "This is nothing but magic from that of old; 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 there are nineteen [angels] in charge of it -- 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
