He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 But what could tell you that per chance he might become pure (from sins)? 3 Or be reminded and the remembrance would benefit him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 to him thou attendest 6 though you are not to blame if he would not cleanse himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Of him you are neglectful and divert your attention to another, 10 No indeed, this is a Reminder; 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted and holy, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what did He create him? 18 Of a sperm-drop He created him, and determined him, 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 together with grapes and vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 and dense orchards, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 and from his mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
