A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif Lam Mim Sad 1 This is a Book sent down toward thee, so let there be no straitness in thy breast therefor, that thou mayest warn thereby! and this is an admonition unto the believers. 2 (Saying): Follow that which is sent down unto you from your Lord, and follow no protecting friends beside Him. Little do ye recollect! 3 How many towns We have destroyed. Our scourge fell upon them by night or at midday when they were resting: 4 No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: "Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)". 5 Then surely, We shall question those (people) to whom it (the Book) was sent and verily, We shall question the Messengers. 6 We will tell them with absolute certainty (what they had done) for We had never been absent from them (during their lifetime). 7 And the weighing on that Day is certain, then whosesoever balances will be heavy, those! they shall fare well. 8 And as for those whose scale is light: those are they who lose their souls because they used to wrong Our revelations. 9 We established you in the land and provided you with a means of livelihood there: yet you are seldom thankful. 10
