So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said, 'Surely you are a people unknown to me!' 62 They replied, "We have come to you about the matter which the (unbelievers) have rejected. 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 so leave with your family some time in the latter part of the night, and walk behind them. Let none of you look back. Go where you are commanded." 65 And We decreed unto him this commandment because the last of those was to be cut off in the early morning. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. (* To the house of Prophet Lut.) 67 Lut said: "These are my guests: disgrace me not: 68 Fear Allah and do not disgrace me' 69 They said, "Did we not forbid you to extend hospitality to strangers?" 70 [Lout (Lot)] said: "These (the girls of the nation) are my daughters (to marry lawfully), if you must act (so)." 71 By your life, they wandered blindly in their dazzlement. 72 At sunrise a dreadful Shout seized them. 73 And We utterly confounded them, and We rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 And surely it is on a road that still abides. 76 Verily there is a Sign in this for the believers. 77 And the dwellers in the wood [i.e. the people of Madyan (Midian) to whom Prophet Shu'aib was sent by Allah), were also Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.). 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
