In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O thou enwrapped! 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 Half of it, or lessen it a little, 3 Or add to it, and recite the Quran as it ought to be recited. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon thee a weighty word; 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 But recite the name of your Lord withdrawing yourself from everything, devoting yourself exclusively to Him. 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear patiently whatever they say, do not yield to them and keep on preaching decently to them. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment, 13 On a day when the earth and the mountains will tremble, and the mountains turn into dunes of flowing sand. 14 We have sent an Apostle to you as a witness against you, as We had sent an apostle to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed Our Messenger, so We seized him with a terrible seizing. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 The heavens itself will be rent asunder (on that day). His promise is bound to be fulfilled. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
