Dawn (Al-Fajr)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 And the Even and the Odd, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 Join My servants. 29 And come into My Paradise! 30
