Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of privation 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
