Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 When he said to his father and his people: "What do you worship?" 70 They answered: We worship idols, and we remain ever devoted to them." 71 'Do they hear you when you call on them' He asked. 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said, 'Nay, but we found our fathers so doing.' 74 Abraham said, "Have you really thought about what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your forefathers of yore? 76 Lo! they are (all) an enemy unto me, save the Lord of the Worlds, 77 “The One Who created me, so He will guide me.” 78 “And the One Who feeds me and gives me to drink.” 79 “And when I fall ill, so it is He Who heals me.” 80 He who will cause me to die and bring me back to life; 81 It is He whom I expect to forgive my sins on the Day of Judgment. 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 And grant me a reputation of honor among later generations. 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Paradise of Delight; 85 "And forgive my father - for, verily, he is among those who have gone astray 86 Do not betray me 87 the Day when nothing will avail, neither wealth nor offspring, 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 And the garden shall be brought near for those who guard (against evil), 90 And the hell shall be made manifest to the erring ones, 91 They will be asked: "Where are those you worshipped 92 Beside Allah? Can they succour you or succour themselves? 93 They will then be thrown into Hell with those who had gone astray 94 and the hosts of Iblis, all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 By Allah, of a truth we were in error manifest 97 "'When we held you as equals with the Lord of the Worlds; 98 It was but the guilty who misled us. 99 "'Now, then, we have none to intercede (for us), 100 and no sincere friend. 101 "'Now if we only had a chance of return we shall truly be of those who believe!'" 102 Verily in this is a Sign but most of them do not believe. 103 And most surely your Lord is the Mighty, the Merciful. 104
