The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 arise, and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Far from easy for those without Faith. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And children present [with him] 13 And made life smooth and comfortable for him! 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 Then looked he, 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 "This is nothing but the word of a human being!" 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves and spares no one and nothing. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen keepers. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
