Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 Which will neither nourish nor avail against hunger. 7 Faces on that day jocund, 8 With their endeavour well pleased. 9 in a Garden on high, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And drinking-cups ready placed, 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 how heaven was lifted up, 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not a warden over them, 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 Allah will chastise him with the most terrible chastisement. 24 To Us is surely their returning; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
