The Hijjr Valley (Al-Hijjr)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ Alif. Lam. Ra. THESE ARE MESSAGES of revelation - of a discourse clear in itself and clearly showing the truth. 1 Perhaps (often) will those who disbelieve wish that they were Muslims [those who have submitted themselves to Allah's Will in Islam Islamic Monotheism, this will be on the Day of Resurrection when they will see the disbelievers going to Hell and the Muslims going to Paradise]. 2 Leave them alone; let them eat and enjoy themselves the while the hope [of vain delights] beguiles them: for in time they will come to know [the truth]. 3 And We did not destroy any city but that for it was a known decree. 4 [but remember that] no community can ever forestall [the end of] its term - and neither can they delay [it]. 5 They say: "O thou to whom the Message is being revealed! truly thou art mad (or possessed)! 6 If you are a man of truth, why can't you bring the angels to us?" 7 We send not down the angels, save with truth; 8 Lo! We, even We, reveal the Reminder, and lo! We verily are its Guardian. 9 We did send messengers before thee amongst the religious sects of old: 10 And never came a Messenger to them but they did mock him. 11 Even so We make a way for it (that is, the Admonition) in the hearts of the culprits (like a hot rod); 12 That they should not believe in the (Message); but the ways of the ancients have passed away. 13 Yet even had We opened to them a gateway to heaven and they had ascended, on and on, up to it, 14 they would still say, "Our eyes have been dazzled. We are bewitched." 15
