They will ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I will give you an account of him." 83 Lo! We made him strong in the land and gave him unto every thing a road. 84 and he followed a way 85 until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it setting in a muddy spring, and he found nearby a people. We said, 'O Dhool Karnain, either thou shalt chastise them, or thou shalt take towards them a way of kindness.' 86 He said: "Whoever doth wrong, him shall we punish; then shall he be sent back to his Lord; and He will punish him with a punishment unheard-of (before). 87 But as for him who believeth and doeth right, good will be his reward, and We shall speak unto him a mild command. 88 Then he followed yet another path, 89 to the East where he found the sun rising upon a people whom We had exposed to its rays. 90 So it is; and Our knowledge encompasses all that he possessed. 91 Then he followed (another) way, 92 Till, when he came between the two mountains, he found upon their hither side a folk that scarce could understand a saying. 93 They said, “O Zul-Qarnain – indeed Yajuj and Majuj* are spreading chaos in the land – so shall we assign for you a consideration upon the condition that you set up a wall between us and them?” (* Gog and Magog.) 94 He said, "What My Lord has given me is better [than any tribute]. Help me with a force of labourers and I will erect a barrier between you and them: 95 Bring me ingots of iron!' Until, when he had made all level between the two cliffs, he said, 'Blow!' Until, when he had made it a fire, he said, 'Bring me, that I may pour molten brass on it.' 96 Thus (Gog and Magog) could neither climb over it nor dig a hole through (the rampart). 97 Dhul-Qarnain) said: "This is a mercy from my Lord, but when the Promise of my Lord comes, He shall level it down to the ground. And the Promise of my Lord is ever true." 98 ۞ Upon that day We shall leave them surging on one another, and the Trumpet shall be blown, and We shall gather them together, 99 And We will present Hell that Day to the Disbelievers, on display - 100 The ones whose eyes were covered from My remembrance, and who could not bear to hear Truth. 101
