Tell them the story of Abraham, 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They replied: "We worship idols and are devoted to them." 71 He said: "Do they listen to you when ye call (on them)?" 72 or can they benefit or harm you?" 73 They said, "But we found our fathers doing thus." 74 He said: "Have you considered what you have been worshipping, 75 you and your fathers, the elders? 76 "Verily! They are enemies to me, save the Lord of the 'Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists); 77 Who created me, then He has shown me the way: 78 Who gives me food and drink, 79 and heals me when I am sick. 80 and who will cause me to die and then will bring me back to life 81 "And Who, I hope will forgive me my faults on the Day of Recompense, (the Day of Resurrection)," 82 (And then Abraham prayed): "My Lord, endow me with knowledge and wisdom and join me with the righteous, 83 and grant me an honourable reputation among posterity, 84 And make me one of the inheritors of the Garden of Delight. 85 and forgive my father for he is among those who strayed, 86 Do not degrade me on the Day when they are resurrected. 87 The Day whereon will profit neither substance nor sons. 88 "But only he (will prosper) that brings to Allah a sound heart; 89 Paradise will be brought near those who take heed for themselves and follow the straight path; 90 And Hellfire will be brought forth for the deviators, 91 And it will be said to them, “Where are those whom you used to worship?” 92 Besides Allah? Can they help you or yet help themselves? 93 Then will they be hurled therein, they and the seducers 94 and the army of satan will all be thrown headlong into hell. 95 And they will say, when they are quarrelling therein: 96 'By Allah, we were certainly in clear error, 97 In equating you with the Lord of all the worlds; 98 And none has brought us into error except the Mujrimun [Iblis (Satan) and those of human beings who commit crimes, murderers, polytheists, oppressors, etc.]. 99 Now we have none to intercede for us, 100 and no sincere friend. 101 (Alas!) If we only had a chance to return (to the world), we shall truly be among the believers! 102 Verily! In this is indeed a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
