The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
AN INQUIRER ASKED for the affliction that is to come 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 (Muhammad), exercise patience with no complaints. 5 They surely take it to be far away, 6 but We see it to be very near. 7 The day when the sky will be like molten silver. 8 And the mountains will be like flakes of wool, 9 even intimate friends will not inquire about their friends, 10 Though within sight of one another. The sinner would like to ransom himself from the torment of that Day by offering his sons, 11 his companion wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that sheltered him. 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 By no means! Verily, it will be the Fire of Hell! 15 Dragging by the head, 16 and drag into it anyone who has turned away (from obeying God), 17 who amassed and hoarded. 18 ۞ VERILY, man is born with a restless disposition. 19 When evil comes upon him he is impatient; 20 And when good touches him, withholding [of it], 21 Except those who pray, 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for those that ask and those that are dispossessed, 25 And those who accept the truth of the judgment day 26 and go in fear of the punishment of their Lord, 27 for none is secure from the punishment of their Lord, 28 And those who preserve their chastity 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 whereas such as seek to go beyond that [limit] are truly transgressors; 31 And those who protect the property entrusted to them, and their agreements. 32 And those who are in their testimonies upright 33 And those who are mindful of their moral obligations. 34 Those shall dwell in Gardens, honoured. 35
