In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 worship (God) for a few hours at night. 2 Half of it, or a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Qur'an in slow, measured rhythmic tones. 4 For we shall charge thee with a word of weight. 5 Prayer at night leaves the strongest impression on one's soul and the words spoken are more consistent. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 He is the only Lord, so choose Him as your guardian. 9 Bear with patience what they say, and gracefully come away from them. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 So how will you save yourselves, if you disbelieve, on a day that will turn children old? 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
