He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ The Prophet frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 What does it matter to you if he will not become pure (from disbelief, you are only a Messenger, your duty is to convey the Message of Allah). 7 As for him who comes to you striving (after goodness), 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 and so, whoever is willing may remember Him 12 upon pages high-honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 borne by the hands of scribes, 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then He makes the Path easy for him; 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Yet man declines to do His bidding. 23 Let man therefore consider (the sources of) his food. 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 Thereafter We cleave the earth in clefts, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 and vines, and reeds, 28 and olives and palms, 29 and gardens dense with foliage, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 [As] enjoyment for you and your grazing livestock. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Some faces will shine, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
