The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 arise and give warning! 2 And your Lord glorify 3 Purify your inner self, 4 And keep away from Ar-Rujz (the idols)! 5 Do not bestow favours in expectation of return, 6 and persevere for your Lord's sake. 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 then he is eager that I should do more. 15 No! Indeed, he has been toward Our verses obstinate. 16 [and so] I shall constrain him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Behold, [when Our messages are conveyed to one who is bent on denying the truth,] he reflects and meditates [as to how to disprove them] 18 death seized him, how was his determining! 19 Again, death seize him, how he determined! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 this is nothing but the word of a mere mortal!” 25 I will cast him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 it scorches the skin; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
