۞ When the sky is rent asunder 1 in obedience to the commands of their Lord which are incumbent on them, 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 And hath cast out all that was in her, and is empty 4 And it hearkeneth to its Lord, and is duteous. 5 O man, you are striving unto your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 So whoever is given his record of deeds in his right hand – 7 he shall surely receive an easy reckoning 8 and will [be able to] turn joyfully to those of his own kind. 9 But he who is given his ledger from behind his back 10 he will pray for utter destruction 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 But he will indeed! His Lord was ever watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 And the night and that which it drives on, 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 [even thus, O men,] are you bound to move; onward from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 And when the Quran is recited to them they do not make obeisance? ۩ 21 But those who have disbelieved deny, 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 So give them the good news of a painful chastisement, 24 Except those who believed and did good deeds – for them is a reward that will never end. 25
