The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the setting star, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Then he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] approached and came closer, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near Sidrat-ul-Muntaha [lote-tree of the utmost boundary (beyond which none can pass)], 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
