Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 Some faces will on that Day be downcast, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They will have no food other than bitter and thorny fruit 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 Never hearing idle talk. 11 therein a running fountain, 12 Therein will be Thrones (of dignity), raised on high, 13 Goblets set, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 how the mountains were hoisted, 19 And the earth, how it was spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 But if any turn away and reject Allah,- 23 him will God cause to suffer the greatest suffering [in the life to come]: 24 Certainly, it is to Us that they will return. 25 And Ours their reckoning. 26
