The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the night when it covers 1 And the day resplendent 2 Consider the creation of the male and the female! 3 Verily your endeavour is diverse. 4 So for one who gave and practised piety 5 for those who spend for the cause of God, 6 We shall surely ease him to the Path of Easing; 7 But as for he who withholds and considers himself free of need 8 And denied the best matter, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 Therefore I warn you of the fire that flames: 14 in which no one will suffer forever except the wicked ones 15 Who gives the lie (to the truth) and turns (his) back. 16 and from which the cautious shall be distanced. 17 He who gives his wealth to be purified, 18 And no one has with him any boon for which he should be rewarded, 19 except the pleasure of their Lord, the Most High 20 and such, indeed, shall in time be well-pleased. 21
