The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 created man from a clot [of blood]. 2 Read! And your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 Who taught (to write) with the pen 4 Taught man that which he knew not. 5 Yes indeed, man is surely rebellious. 6 For he thinks he is sufficient in himself. 7 Surely! Unto your Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Hast thou seen if he relieth on the guidance (of Allah) 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 does he not know that Allah sees? 14 Indeed, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 [the while] We shall summon the forces of heavenly chastisement! 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
