a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And those of the left hand, how wretched are those of the left hand! 41 They will live amid the scorching, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Nothing (will there be) to refresh, nor to please: 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 And they used to say: When we are dead and have become dust and bones, shall we then, forsooth, be raised again, 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 shall all eat from the Tree of al-Zaqqum, 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 And drink over it scalding water, 54 drinking it as thirsty camels do.” 55 Such will be their welcome on Judgment Day! 56 We created you, then why do you believe not? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Do you yourselves create it, or are We the Creators? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 And certainly you know the first growth, why do you not then mind? 62 Have you ever considered the seed which you cast upon the soil? 63 Is it you or We Who make them grow? 64 [For,] were it Our will, We could indeed turn it into chaff, and you would be left to wonder [and to lament,] 65 (Saying:) 'We are laden with debts! 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who sent it down from the clouds or is it We who have sent it down? 69 Were it Our Will, We could make it salt (and unpalatable): then why do ye not give thanks? 70 Have you ever considered the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We made it a reminder and a provision for the needy. 73 So glorify your Lord, the most supreme. 74
