The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thine Lord magnify! 3 And thy garments keep free from stain! 4 And uncleanliness avoid 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 that Day will be a hard and distressing Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 and whom I have granted abundant wealth 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 and made all things smooth for him; 14 and who still desires more. 15 Nay! Verily, he has been stubborn and opposing Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 16 I will cover him with arduous torment. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Again accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 20 Then he looked around, 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned back and was big with pride, 23 and said: “This (Qur'an) is merely a sorcery of yore; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 Soon I will cast him into hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It neither leaves, nor spares. 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have made only angels as the keepers of the fire (for they are the strongest in carrying out Our commands). Our informing (people) of the numbers of these angels is a trial for the disbelievers. It gives more certainty to the people of the Book and strengthens the faith of the believers. The people of the Book and the believers have no doubt about it. We have fixed the number to make the disbelievers and those whose hearts are sick say, "What does God mean by such a parable?" Thus, God guides and causes to go astray whomever He wants. No one knows about the army of your Lord except He Himself. This parable is a reminder for mankind. 31
