The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 Becoming dust scattered abroad, 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 And a few from the latter. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear therein ill speech or commission of sin - 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and banana trees, 29 and extended shade, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For the Companions of the Right Hand. 38
