The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise and warn! 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 and purify your robes, 4 Pollution shun! 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me with him whom I alone have created, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And gave him sons present before him. 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 I shall soon constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 For he thought and he plotted;- 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 then he frowned, and scowled, 22 Then turned his back and waxed proud, 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will surely roast him in the Scorching. 26 What could make you conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It leaves nothing, nor does it spare; 28 Burning the skins! 29 Over it are nineteen (angels as guardians and keepers of Hell). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
