The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to those who give short measure, 1 Those who, when they have to receive by measure from men, demand full measure, 2 But if they measure unto them or weight for them, they cause them loss. 3 Do they not think that they will be called to account?- 4 unto a mighty day 5 The Day when mankind will stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 Indeed the ledger of the wicked will be in (the lowest depths) Sijjin. 7 Ah! what will convey unto thee what Sijjin is! - 8 The record is a sealed text. 9 Woe, that Day, to the deniers, 10 and those who have rejected the Day of Judgment. 11 And none belieth it save each trespasser, sinner. 12 When Our revelations are conveyed to him, he says, "Fables of the ancients!" 13 No indeed! Their own deeds have cast a veil over their hearts. 14 Nay, verily, from [the grace of] their Sustainer shall they on that Day be debarred; 15 Then most surely they shall enter the burning fire. 16 whereafter they will be told: “This is what you used to give the lie to.” 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 A written record, 20 To which bear witness those brought nigh. 21 Verily the pious will be in heaven, 22 On Thrones (of Dignity) will they command a sight (of all things): 23 You can trace on their faces the joy of their bliss. 24 They are made to quaff of a pure drink that is sealed (to others). 25 The last thereof (that wine) will be the smell of musk, and for this let (all) those strive who want to strive (i.e. hasten earnestly to the obedience of Allah). 26 for it is composed of all that is most exalting 27 A spring whereof drink those nearest to Allah. 28 The sinners indeed laughed at believers 29 And winked at one another as they passed by them; 30 And when they returned to their household they returned jesting. 31 On seeing the believers, they would say, "These people have gone astray". 32 Yet they were not sent as watchers over them. 33 So today the believers are laughing at the unbelievers, 34 seated upon their couches, they are looking around. 35 Did not the disbelievers get repaid for what they used to do? 36
