The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise, and warn, 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 and purify your clothing, 4 And pollution shun. 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 For the sake of thy Lord, be patient! 7 And when the trumpet is blown, 8 Surely that day will be a day of anguish, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 And who yet coveteth that shall increase. 15 By no means! surely he offers opposition to Our communications. 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 He then dared to lift his gaze. 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 Then he turned away, and was haughty. 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 I will soon fling him into hell. 26 And what will make you realize what hell is? 27 It lets nothing remain and leaves nothing [unburned], 28 It scorches the mortal. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
