۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 Other than Allah, and guide them to the path of Hellfire 23 And stop them; indeed, they are to be questioned." 24 What aileth you that ye succour not one another? 25 No, today they will resign themselves in submission, 26 but [since it will be too late,] they will turn upon one another, demanding of each other [to relieve them of the burden of their past sins]. 27 These say, 'Why, you of old would come to us from the right hand.' 28 [To which] the others will reply: "Nay, you yourselves were bereft of all faith! 29 “And we did not have any control over you; but in fact you yourselves were rebellious.” 30 The sentence of our Lord has come true for us. We have certainly to taste (the punishment), 31 So then, [if it be true that] we have caused you to err grievously - behold, we ourselves had been lost in grievous error!" 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 Verily, thus shall We deal with all who were lost in sin: 34 for, behold, whenever they were told, "There is no deity save God," they would glory in their arrogance 35 and would say: "Shall we, then, give up our deities at the bidding of a mad poet?" 36 Nay, but he [whom you call a mad poet] has brought the truth; and he confirms the truth of [what the earlier of God's] message-bearers [have taught]. 37 (They will be told), "You will certainly suffer the painful torment 38 And be rewarded but only for what you had done, 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 Fruits. And they will be honoured 42 (They will live) in the bountiful gardens, 43 (Sitting) on couches, face to face, 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 Neither they will have Ghoul (any kind of hurt, abdominal pain, headache, a sin, etc.) from that, nor will they suffer intoxication therefrom. 47 And with them will be chaste females, restraining their glances (desiring none except their husbands), with wide and beautiful eyes. 48 Like sheltered eggs in a nest. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who used to say: 'Are you one of those who can testify to the truth? 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 Then he looks, and sees him in the midst of Hell. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 "Is it (the case) that we shall not die, 58 except for our first death, and are we not chastised? 59 This is certainly the greatest triumph 60 for which one must strive hard. 61 Is such [a paradise] the better welcome - or the [hellish] tree of deadly fruit? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 Verily, it is a tree that springs out of the bottom of Hell-fire, 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 They will eat from it and fill their bellies with it; 66 And thereafter verily they shall have thereon a draught of boiling water. 67 Then to Hell they will surely be returned. 68 They found their fathers had gone astray; 69 So they (too) made haste to follow in their footsteps! 70 And verily most of the men of old went astray before them, 71 though We had sent warners among them. 72 Therefore see what sort of fate befell those who were warned! 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
