The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And your garments do purify, 4 stay away from sins 5 and bestow not favour in order to seek from others a greater return, 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 That shall be - that Day - a day hard. 9 and it will not be easy for the unbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 And to whom I granted extensive wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! For to Our Signs he has been refractory! 16 I will make a distressing punishment overtake him. 17 He reflected and then hatched a scheme. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 And once more let him be cursed, how he plotted! 20 Then he looked, 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 And said, “This is nothing but magic learnt from earlier men.” 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what could make thee conceive what hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It shrivelleth the man. 29 Over it are appointed nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
