He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 And is afraid (of Allah and His Punishment), 9 Him thou neglectest! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let whosoever will pay heed to it, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 Exalted and purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then doth He make His path smooth for him; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 thickly planted gardens, 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 laughing, rejoicing at glad tidings. 39 Some faces on that Day shall be dust-ridden, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
