The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 He created man from a clot. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 Who teacheth by the pen, 4 He taught the human being what he did not know. 5 Nay, surely man transgresses; 6 for he believes himself to be self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 What is your opinion – regarding him who forbids – 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 What will happen if the praying person is rightly guided 11 and enjoins piety? 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Does he not know that God observes all things? 14 By no means! If he desist not We shall seize and deal him by the forelock 15 By the lying, the sinful forelock. 16 So let him now call his gang! 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
