The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Cloaked one, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 Proclaim the glory of your Lord; 3 and purify your robes, 4 and defilement flee! 5 And do not confer favor to acquire more 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 And [warn all men that] when the trumpet-call [of resurrection] is sounded, 8 That will be- that Day - a Day of Distress,- 9 For the unbelievers, anything but easy. 10 Leave him to Me whom I created alone, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 To whom I made (life) smooth and comfortable! 14 Yet he wants that I should give him more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 (Self-)destroyed is he, how he planned! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then frowned he and showed displeasure. 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then said he: "This is nothing but magic, derived from of old; 24 This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It spares not, neither leaves alone 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen (angels guarding). 30 We have not appointed the guards of hell, except angels; and did not keep this number except to test the disbelievers – in order that the People given the Book(s) may be convinced, and to increase the faith of the believers – and so that the People given the Book(s) and the Muslims may not have any doubt – and so that those in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers, may say, “What does Allah mean by this amazing example?” This is how Allah sends astray whomever He wills, and guides whomever He wills; and no one knows the armies of Allah except Him; and this is not but an advice to man. 31
