Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Hast thou received the story of the Enveloper? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 labouring, toilworn, 3 Scorched by burning fire, 4 Given water from the boiling spring to drink. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 (Whereas other) faces on that Day will be joyful, 8 Rejoicing over their efforts. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 hearing there no babble; 11 Therein will be a bubbling spring: 12 Therein are thrones raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 cushions ranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven, how it is raised? 18 And the mountains: how they were fixed? 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Admonish thou then; thou art but an admonisher. 21 and are not invested with the authority to compel them. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 In which case he will be punished by God with the severest punishment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
