The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the sun and his brightness, 1 And by the moon as it follows it (the sun); 2 By the Day as it shows up (the Sun's) glory; 3 and by the night when it enshrouds him! 4 Consider the sky and its wondrous make, 5 and by the earth and how He spread it, 6 By the soul, and That which shaped it 7 then inspired it to understand what was right and wrong for it. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And he will indeed fail who corrupts it. 10 Thamood cried lies in their insolence 11 when the most corrupt of them incited them (to commit evil). 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they called him a liar and slaughtered her, therefore their Lord crushed them for their sin and levelled them (with the ground). 14 He did not fear the consequences. 15
