The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the star when it sets: 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then he drew near and hung above suspended, 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 What! do you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 Near it is the Garden of Refuge - 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 Have you then considered Al-Lat, and Al-'Uzza (two idols of the pagan Arabs). 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Shall you have the male issues, and He the female issues? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he coveteth? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
