He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 On honoured leaves 13 Exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He caused him to die and made him to be buried. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 So let man just consider his food: 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives and palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces that Day, will be bright (true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 38 laughing and joyful, 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
