The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the mount. 1 And the Book written 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 And the House frequented, 4 The roof raised high, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 (They will be told): “Eat and drink to your hearts' content as a reward for your deeds.” 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
