The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is cleft asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is spread out. 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! Verily, you are returning towards your Lord with your deeds and actions (good or bad), a sure returning, so you will meet (i.e. the results of your deeds which you did). 6 The reckoning of those whose Book of records will be given into their right hands 7 Will have an easy reckoning, 8 and he shall return to his people, joyfully, 9 but as for him whose record shall be given to him from behind his back, 10 he shall call for destruction 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 But nay! I swear by the sunset redness, 16 by the night and what it covers, 17 and the moon when it is at the full, 18 You will surely go up level by level. 19 What is wrong with them that they do not believe? 20 When the Quran is read to them, why do they not fall to their knees? ۩ 21 Nay, but those who disbelieve will deny; 22 God is quite aware of what they are storing in their hearts. 23 So give them tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except for those who believe and do righteous deeds. For them is a reward uninterrupted. 25
